Beyond Repair review - Gothtronic

time October 14th by the Mother of Abominations

After Endif last month, it’s another American band that makes a rather good, first impression. The debut album by Prometheus Burning is not as complex as Endif, the songs are more based on firm beats instead of difficult structures, melting into a hybrid of various tempos and layers. Think more in the direction of Terrorfakt, but more controlled and female vocals (Pzychobitch? Hanin Elias?) make this a record that easily stands out of the crowds.

The album is released through Hive Records, which is -again- doing a good job. PB is not a bad choice for their roster, and even though this is still no match for (early) Manufactura or Pneumatic Detach, ‘Beyond Repair’ is worth it. The 10 songs, and the “hidden” track (on number 23) are pounding on well and are added with aggression and firm rhythms, creating a record that sometimes refers to S.K.E.T. (”Leave It To Fate”) and the aforementioned Terrorfakt. The good thing about Prometheus Burning is not only their band name, but mostly their way to easily compose songs solely based on speed. Whilst lots of colleagues tend to take the whole thing a bit slower, it’s the sheer energy that’s launched with this record that’s mostly worth it. Play this loud and you even got a good candidate for airplay in clubs.

Another positive note is the use of female vocals. I mentioned Sina (Pzychobitch), which is certainly a comparable name, but musically not to a good comparison! There’s no real shouting going on, but mostly preaching, talking out loud in the same way Proyecto Mirage does this sometimes (although faster). The music is a bit more harsh, and might be the American version of ‘our’ Hands Productions. I mentioned the differences between European and American industrial before, and if you know what I tried to point out, it’s these type of US-bands that can certainly get big in Europe as well. Without a doubt I say that when Endif is too difficult or too complex for y’all, you might just really get the hang of a burning Prometheus.
